About The Author

Hailey H. Rush

Hi All! I am  Hailey Humphreys Rush. I wear many titles: Follower of Jesus Christ, Wife, Mother, Daughter, Sister, Niece, Cousin, Friend, Educator & now Debuting Author of  My Little Brown Boy.   My Little Brown Boy has allowed me to achieve two things: 1- fulfill a lifelong dream of becoming an author & 2- celebrate the beauty of little brown boys, specifically my little brown boys, Finn & Reed.

I am a native of Aberdeen, Mississippi, but my formative years were spent in Tupelo, Mississippi.  I received my Bachelors of Science from the University of Mississippi (Hotty Toddy) and my Masters of Education & Educational Specialist degrees from Delta State University.

I am the product of a  mother that embodies the virtues of the Proverbs 31 woman;  of Summers with my madea; of Sunday mornings at New Hope M. B. Church; of Sunday afternoons & Christmases at my grandparents' house; &  countless  other experiences and relationships that were examples of God's grace & mercy.  All of the previously mentioned shaped this old soul of mine & have  given me something to share with others with the hope that I may empower & enlighten.

About The Illustrator

Darniece Floyd

Hello, I am Darneice Floyd, a self-taught artist from the small city of Louisville, near the heart of Mississippi. Although I've only been painting since 2014, I have always been in love with art and have been drawing since I was able to hold a crayon.

As creative beings, we can sometimes detour from our dreams for numerous reasons: fear of failure, lack of support, lack of resources, or the feeling they are too far out of reach. I struggled when choosing career goals during my youth because of a lack of support, resources, and self-doubt, so I detoured from her dream of being an artist and chose a path that I felt was more achievable. I found that I was extremely dissatisfied after college graduation and in search of more.

It was not until after earning my second Bachelor of Science degree that I stumbled upon true happiness. It was the night I sat down after meditating and completed a portrait; suddenly, everything made sense again. The flame in my heart was reignited and my passion for art had resurfaced. When I look back at all my lecture notes from college, the corners of the pages were filled with sketches -- and the pages in between the notes were, too. The signs of my true calling were always there, I was just too blind to see them.

Since that first portrait after graduation, I have wanted to do nothing else but inspire those who have taken a wrong turn and feel they cannot turn their situations around and start fresh. Darneice Creates is a site built to encourage those who see my work and witness my artistic journey to never give up on finding what genuinely makes their heart smile.

I am a true believer and witness that it is never too late to pursue your dreams, and I hope my story speaks to anyone determined to pursue a path that may seem unrealistic to the uncreative mind.
